Get prepared for the 2022/2023 school by ordering one of the Canadian Geographic’s Giant Floor Maps! At the end of August every year, along with renewing my subscriptions for different online content, I also try to find any new and interesting resources that I might want for the year. This year I really wanted to book up some of the Canadian Geographic’s Giant Floor Maps. You can block book them for a few weeks and I think they will be a really cool experiential learning tool for my students.
This year I booked up the Ocean, Freshwater, and Us map for use with my Grade 8 Geography class when we investigate the Ocean as part of their Geography reboot at the start of the year, as well as the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada, which I will use with my Grade 10 class as part of their Indigenous Peoples Studies.

Ocean, Freshwater, and Us
Canada has the longest coastline of any country in the world and approximately 20% of the planet’s freshwater resources. This Giant Floor Map highlights the foundational connection between us and the ocean and freshwater that surrounds and sustains us.
Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada
This map shows the locations of Indigenous communities, residential schools, reserves and more. Rather than showing political borders, Canada is broken up into Indigenous language groups.
Re:Location
This map highlights stories from Canada’s past about the movement and relocation of peoples which have shaped the nation we live in today.
Ontario Parks
Available only to Ontario teachers, this map highlights the Ontario park system, as well as Indigenous treaty areas, highways, and urban and rural communities.
Polar Knowledge Canada
Look at the world from a circumpolar perspective! Use this map to explore the Arctic and discuss why the Arctic circumpolar region is so important.
